The Accessman Story

Like many successful New Zealand businesses, Accessman started from humble beginnings.

In 1994 the construction industry was feeling pressure from the Department of Labour to ensure that all work practices complied with national Occupational Safety and Health Standards. At the same time, companies needed to increase their focus on profitability. The entrepreneurial mind of Christchurch-based electrician, Ross Pickersgill was quick to identify a solution to both.

That very same year, Ross purchased his first scissor lift which was hired out to contractors when Ross was not using it. This piece of equipment not only made working at height safe but it increased productivity by removing the need to continually build scaffolding.

Armed with a business plan, Accessman was born and is now the largest specialist equipment hire company in the South Island.

Industry Leaders

Accessman now boasts over 1000 machines making it the Elevated Working Platform (EWP) industry leaders and industry experts with Ross at the helm as Director of the Accessman Group.

While some can boast to be ‘experts’ within their fields, Accessman don’t use this word flippantly. Accessman has played an advisory role to the Hire Industry Association of NZ (HIANZ) for the purpose of developing the Codes of Practice for the operation of EWP’s.

Safety First

Accessman are big on safety and have a long history of providing Silvercard NZQA training in compliance with Best Practice Guidelines and Worksafe NZ standards. The Silvercard NZQA Operator Licence certifies that the holder is ‘deemed competent’ in the operation of access equipment and in dealing with emergency procedures. With a newly refurbished training centre here in Christchurch, Accessman are dedicated to keeping you safe at height.

While its fleet can attest to Accessman’s standing within the EWP Sector, it’s Accessman’s dedication to providing quality machines with a customer focused approach that has been key to the company’s success.

All of Accessman’s machines are well maintained and regularly serviced. We carry out checks on our machines before they leave our yard and immediately upon their return. Accessman can guarantee to deliver its customers with the best machine for their job.

Top Staff

Delivering these machines (or assisting you to collect) are Accessman’s fully trained staff. All branches are run by local people from each region. They know the environments and conditions in which their customers need to work and this means they can provide solid advice specific to each situation.

All staff attend regular health and safety based courses to ensure that their knowledge is up-to-date which in turn ensures the safety of the customer, the public and their staff. Furthermore; our staff are Silvercard holders themselves which means they can deliver the required training to ensure that customers feel competent in all aspects of operating the equipment.
